RIP: my brain

Seeing You

How is it that the last four practice tests I took my score  DECREASED?

I give up. I'm going to spend the rest of the day playing  with the kiddies, watching bad tv, eating pizza, and praying like hell my brain decides before 8:30 AM tommorow that it loves me again.

The Hell You Say: A Non-Review

Josh's Angels
Alright before we get rollin (like a roooooooooooollin stone) I have to say, I maybe added a few bits here and there last night. 'Member how I said in my non-review of Fatal Shadows that I wrote this a while ago? Well when I was adding links and the pics to my Dangerous Thing post (which you can read hur), well I got a song in my head. Mood music, I said. Which is pretty fun for me sitting here at my 'puter while ya'll imagine me caterwauling these lyrics. But maybe not so fun for the 60 y/o man in front of me in line at the post office while I quietly sang. Let's get it oooon. Not that that really happened. Or anything. So I thought I'd bring in a couple more performers today. Just lettin you know in case someone was tempted to say "wtf" for something other than my logic.

And now, places people. And we're back in 3...2...1...Action!

Weeeeelcome back, folks. Today we turn our attention to The Hell You Say by Josh Lanyon, the third in the Adrien English mysteries and my personal favorite. Let me be the most polite of hosts by slamming you in the face first thing with links 'cause that's how I roll. You can buy the print version here and the ebook version here. You can also take a gander at Josh's site here--and don't let those crafty folks at google fool you, Josh's site isn't down. It's all lies! Google Chrome just does not seem to care for direct linkage for his site. Use IE or Firefox.

If you'd rather not stick around for my blathering on why I loved this book so much (or the scandalous confession I promised) you can take my word that this is a really great book. Seriously. Really interesting storyline with lots of occultish goodness, emotions like a pan in your frickin face, and the usual laughs. If that's enough for you then go buy and reeeeaaaaaaad. And if you want to read a real review you can do that here or here or here or here or here.

And now....

Right this way, folks... )

A Dangerous Thing: A Non-Review

Josh's Angels

Anyone back for more after yesterday...well, you have my deepest sympathy. And admiration.

Today we turn our eyes to A Dangerous Thing, second in the Adrien English mystery series by Josh Lanyon. I covered the first in the series, Fatal Shadows, yesterday in fine fashion which you can read here. I said yesterday this won't be a review, and I'm not going to reiterate that...except, well, I guess I just did.  This is basically a book rec, and one with no rhyme or reason to it at that. It ain't easy wringin water from a stone, so if you're looking for coherency it's going to be a looooong day.

I kid, I kid. I think.

If you just want to take the short word for it, A Dangerous Thing is a fun--as fun as murder can be, anyways--witty mystery with some of the best characterization out there and some really top notch writing. Find out for yourself what a great read this is by buying and reading here in print or here as an ebook combo with Fatal Shadows. And if you want to read an actual review, you can read one here or here or here or here.

For the brave, adventurous types... )

Fatal Shadows: A Non-Review

Josh's Angels
Just a quick note before we get this party started-I wrote this a while ago in preparation for this grand countdown I had planned for the release of Josh Lanyon's new Adrien English mystery Death of a Pirate King, which I have been looking forward to for FOREVEH. Well, life happened and so I never did anything with this, but it's such a great series and so I figured why not do this?  Have a three day countdown before the massive launch party next week? It'd be a shame to waste my ramblings and scribblings. And so here we are. Today we cover Fatal Shadows. Tomorrow tune in for nattering on about A Dangerous Thing.

Oh and one more thing--and yeah, I know what you're thinking: "this broad will never get to the point"--but I just want to stress this is a non-review. I'm not going to sum it all up in my pretty little words, or break it down point by point, mainly b/c I don't want to spoil anything (this is a mystery...it should be mysterious!). There are enough serious and well-thought out reviews out there, I don't think the world will miss much if I don't add to the pile (you can read one here or here or here or here or here) So this is more like... commentary. An introduction to my favorite character and anything else that may matter. Or not. I'm a trickster like that.  And I'll warn you, we're probably headed straight for inane if I have anything to say about it, so if that's your cup of tea pull up a chair. If not, then read my lips: Read this book. Read. It. It's flippin great. Buy here in print or here-double your pleasure-as an ebook with A Dangerous Thing, another flippin great Adrien mystery.
